Be Diligent, Scams are a Constant Threat!

Scams are a constant threat in today’s digital world, and they can come in many forms, from phone calls and emails to fake websites and social media messages. While scams can be tricky, there are several steps you can take to protect yourself and avoid falling victim to fraud.

  • Hang up on unknown numbers: If you get a call from an unfamiliar number, be cautious. If it's important, they'll leave a voicemail or send a letter.

  • Don’t share personal information: Avoid giving out sensitive details like Social Security numbers or bank information over the phone.

  • Verify claims: If you’re contacted by a company or government agency, hang up and call their official number to confirm the legitimacy of the call.

  • Install call-blocking apps: Many apps can help filter out potential scam calls based on known scammer databases.

  • Never pay upfront: Be cautious if asked to send money or share sensitive details over the phone.

  • Ask for help:  Keep your family and those you trust in the loop when it comes to making financial decisions.

While there are many scams to be aware of, please remember that the IRS will never call you demanding payment; they communicate with taxpayers through official letters.
